FAQs

Health & Safety

What is the difficulty level of tours?

Mexico City’s terrain is generally flat along our tour routes, which typically last about five hours. This duration includes frequent stops for photographs, snacks, and historical context at important landmarks. We rate these tours as level four (on a scale of ten, with ten being the most strenuous). Each group is kept small for comfort and safety, with a guide at the front and another at the rear to monitor pacing. If someone needs to slow down or take a break, we will adjust accordingly. Rest assured, this is meant to be a relaxed and enjoyable ride, not the Tour de France.

Is biking safe in Mexico City?

Biking in Mexico City is generally safe and the city has a network of bike lanes that our tours utilize as much as possible. You will receive a brief safety course before we begin the tour, and you will have a tour guide in front and in the rear of the group to monitor your safety.

Are bike helmets made available?

Mexico City Bike Tours provides helmets for all riders and strongly recommends their use, though they are not mandatory. While each participant is ultimately responsible for their own safety, our guides will offer extensive support and guidance to help keep everyone safe.

What happens if I have an accident on my bike?

Accidents are rare on our tours, as we maintain a slow, casual pace and have two guides dedicated to spotting potential hazards such as cars and potholes. However, it is possible for a rider to lose focus amidst the city’s sights and sounds, which may result in a fall. In the event of a minor injury, our guides carry a first-aid kit for immediate care, and we can also help you find additional medical services if needed. We strongly recommend travel insurance to cover any costs associated with an accident. For the safest experience, please follow the guidelines provided during the safety briefing and remain attentive to your guides’ instructions throughout the ride.

Bikes and Equipment

Mexico City Bike Tours proudly features Gravel Fixie bicycles, manufactured in Mexico. These fixed-gear bikes eliminate the need for shifting, and their lightweight aluminum construction ensures a smooth ride, making them ideal for city tours.

Each bike is equipped with:

  • A helmet (optional)
  • Front and rear lights (for evening rides)
  • A water bottle filled with filtered water (yours to keep)
  • A bottle holder
  • A bike lock
  • A bike horn
  • A small bag for securing personal items, such as your phone, glasses, or wallet

Additionally, all riders are provided with a wireless walkie-talkie headset, allowing for seamless communication among participants and guides. This ensures everyone can stay connected and easily hear all information shared throughout the tour.
